Sign up today! Sentco.net Spam Filtering is just $1.00 a month. Send an e-mail to info@sentco.net requesting spam filtering for your e-mail address, and once you receive a reply confirming that spam filtering has been set up, visit the Sentco.net Spam Filtering options page to choose your settings and start the service.

What is Spam? "Spam" is a name given to unsolicited e-mail that is generally sent to many people from individuals or companies that you do not know and have probably never dealt with in the past. Spam can contain offers of a questionable nature or solicitations to buy goods or services that may contain items of an illegal, explicit, or untrue nature.

How does Spam filtering work? Each e-mail message addressed to you is scanned for a variety of features commonly found in junk mail. Each message is then given a numeric score based on the number of features found within it; the higher the score, the more the message looks like Spam When you set up your personal Spam filtering options, you specify a tolerance level, which acts as a "threshold" score. Any e-mail message with a score higher than this level is filtered out, so you will only receive e-mails with a low Spam score.

Can I see what is being filtered out? Yes. Your filtered messages will be stored in a folder called Junk_Mail. After you sign up for Sentco.net Spam Filtering, you will find this folder by logging in to your e-mail account through Webmail:

Log in to Webmail with your login name and password (your login name is the part of your e-mail address before "@sentco.net").
Click on the Mailboxes link at the top of the page (upper left).
Then click on the folder called Junk_Mail -- here you will see your messages. If a message was filtered and placed in the Junk_Mail folder that you want to keep, you can move it to your Inbox by selecting which mailbox you'd like the message sent to (choose Inbox if you wish to receive this message in your regular Inbox) and then choose the "Move To" option.

How long do messages stay in the Junk_Mail folder? Messages in this folder will be deleted after 10 days. You may choose to delete these messages sooner (by logging into Webmail), but any messages not discarded by you will automatically be deleted after 10 days. E-mails that have been automatically deleted from the Junk_Mail folder cannot be recovered.

Can I always allow or block e-mails based on the sender's e-mail address? Yes. Sentco.net Spam Filtering provides two lists, called the allowed and blocked senders lists. The allowed senders list is a list of people from whom you always wish to receive messages. E-mail from addresses in this list will not be checked for Spam properties and you will always get their mail. The blocked senders list is a list of people from whom you NEVER want to receive mail. Messages that are discarded because they are in the blocked senders list will NOT be put in your Junk_Mail folder. They will be rejected by the server and cannot be recovered. Two other lists, the allowed and blocked subjects lists, provide similar capabilities based on the subject line of the e-mail. More detailed information about these lists is given in the Frequently Asked Questions box on the right side of the Spam settings page.

Will my personal e-mails be filtered? As with any computer-based system, Sentco.net Spam Filtering is not perfect. The Spam score that is given to each e-mail is assigned by a computer program. This program cannot understand the content of the e-mail; it can only search for certain words and patterns that are common in Spam but unusual in personal messages. However, occasionally personal messages contain words or phrases, such as profanity or lots of exclamation marks at the end of the subject, that catch the Spam filter's attention. If a personal message has enough of these characteristics and is assigned a Spam score higher than your personal tolerance level, it will be filtered out into your Junk_Mail folder. This is why we recommend that you check your Junk_Mail folder about once a week to catch any personal messages. If you are concerned about personal messages getting filtered out, you can always set your tolerance higher, or add some entries to the allowed senders list.

How do I sign up? You can have all the features Sentco.net Spam Filtering offers for just $1.00 a month. To sign up, send an e-mail to info@sentco.net, and we'll get you signed up as soon as possible. Once you receive a reply from us, go to the Sentco.net Spam Filtering options page to choose your settings and start the service. That's all there is to it!
